Etsy Shop Photography Tips
Part of the fun in creating an Etsy business is to have vibrant and eye-catching photography! I enjoy using my photography skills to look for ways to accentuate the uniqueness of each jean.
Here are my top 3 Etsy shop photography tips:
1. Find a fun background
It took me a while of trial and error to find the right backgrounds for my Etsy distressed jeans photography. Look for bright backgrounds or hues to draw attention instead of competing with your products. Backgrounds with texture always bring a fun dynamic to your pictures.
2. Use natural lighting
I have a light box studio but honestly the pictures really pop when using natural lighting. Experiment with the time of day to eliminate shadows. FYI, mid day sunshine can cause harsh shadows. I learned the hard way!
3. Use a real camera not a cell phone
I use my phone's camera for everything but when it relates to striking beautiful photography a real camera can give that saturated in color gorgeous contrast. A cell phone camera just falls short and can make photographs have a dull finish.
Good luck with your Etsy shop photography! It is not as challenging as it may seem. You will realize what tweaks to make along the way as you learn and go!

Etsy Shop SEO
Some of my Etsy shop's search terms seen in Stats
Some great ways to help your Etsy shop be found is to use key words in the item title, description and tags. Make sure to vary the tags across your listings to reach a wide audience. You can also use the search terms and phrases as tags, they are seen in Stats.

Want to take your Etsy shop SEO to the next level? I recommend using Etsy Rank or Marmalead (they have a free version) to see what key words work the best for your items. It is imperative to having excellent SEO to have the exact key words and in the order that gives your listings the highest visibility possible.
Using these 2 sites took my SEO from a grade C to a grade A. It was super easy to switch out the key words and title wording for the exact words they recommended.

How do you know if what you want to sell on Etsy will be successful? You can research on Etsy, Marmalead or other websites to see what are top selling items. You can also search Etsy to see if what you want to sell is already posted. That will give you an idea of pricing, use of photography, etc.
For example, if you want to sell hand painted and hand crafted ceramic vases take a look at other sellers' products. The Etsy rank website allows you to compare listings and see all of the behind the scene stats that may help you in developing your listings. The Marmalead website will give you an idea of pricing so you'll know if you are under or over charging.
It take a bit of work to get an Etsy shop up and running. I found both Etsy Rank and Marmalead to be extremely helpful in knowing my competition, crafting my listings and getting SEO on target so my listings could be found. Keep working on your shop until you discover what tips and tricks work best for you!

A lot of people have a mild interest in designing something and listing it on Etsy. Taking that next step to learn a crafting technique is where a lot of people drop off the Etsy-bound road. There are tons of videos on YouTube to learn a huge variety of crafts. You may think something may take a lot of skill but after watching a video feel confident enough to try it yourself.
I encourage you to take that step and try something new. You may mess it up. You may struggle for a while. But practice really does make it perfect and sooner or later you'll be on the path to success. It's also important to remember that each item is unique and will look different than products that are mass produced. Find the joy in the imperfection! Happy crafting!
